Austral Retractaway 40 Clothesline
The Austral Retractaway 40 is a top selling heavy duty clothesline that can hold a huge wash load for a family of 4-5. It has a unique line tension system that extends up to 8m, and retracts back to the wall when not in use.
The long line length of this model is perfect for narrow spaces. Any supporting posts can be fixed into the ground (grass/soil), or bolted down on top of an existing concrete area (plated post version).
Installation Note: If you require drilling into existing concrete for your clothesline installation please contact us on 1300 798 779 to discuss, as there is additional labour and charges.

- Compare the Austral Retractaway 40 with Hills, Daytek, and Brabantia retractable clotheslines
|Suitable For||3 - 4 People|
|Total Line Space||40m|
|Maximum Line Extension||8m|
|Number of Lines||5|
|Minimum Line Extension||2m|
Is there a minimum distance that I have to pull out the lines? Yes, the Retractaway 40 has a minimum extension of just 2m. This means you can pull the lines out from the cabinet any distance from 2m up to 8m(10m for the extended version) and the lines can be locked. Can I get a special colour for my clothesline? No, the Austral clotheslines are only available in the colour/s shown on each Product Page. Can I install the clothesline in the ground instead of on the wall? Yes, you can add 1 or 2 Post Kits to your order if you don’t have a wall available. What does ‘Plated’ Post Kit mean? A Plated Post Kit allows you to bolt the post down onto an existing concrete area rather than core drilling or jack hammering holes into the concrete. The post has a metal plate welded on the bottom with holes for dyna-bolting down onto the concrete. How does the Retractaway 40 compare to other, similar clotheslines? To compare all of the Retractaway 40's features against Hills, Brabantia, and Daytek clotheslines that are similar, then visit our Austral Retractaway 40 clothesline comparison chart. What is the Ground Socket for? If you order a Post Kit with the clothesline, you don’t have to permanently fix the post into the ground. The socket is what you cement in and the post simply slots into this making it removable at any time to make room for a party. Please note it is not recommended to have 2 posts removable with sockets due to the tension of this type of product. The clothesline cabinet post should be permanently fixed. What is the Mount Bar for? The Mount Bar is only required if you want to install the clothesline cabinet onto a Post Kit. Can I attach this to a fence? Yes but it is recommended that the receiving end only is attached and to the fence post as this is the most secure part of the fence. Can I install a retractable clothesline on a wall other than brick? Yes you can but you will just need to make sure the mounting holes at the back of the cabinet align with the structural supports in the wall. If not then a Post Kit is recommended with the clothesline and install it freestanding in front of the wall. What is the best height for installing a retractable clothesline? A general rule of thumb is to install the clothesline so that the lines are approx. 50mm above the users head height. An average height is approx. 1800mm but you can adjust this to suit your requirements. Is the Austral Retractaway 40 suitable to be used as an extra clothesline for wet weather drying? Yes. This unit is appropriate for use within carports, garages and verandahs, locking in place at a minimum distance of 2 metres.
