Can I make the width of my Austral Fold Down clothesline smaller? Yes, this is very easy to do, just trim down the front bar before assembly to reduce the width. Can I get a special colour for my clothesline? No, the Austral clotheslines are only available in the colour/s shown on each Product Page.   Can I install the clothesline in the ground instead of on the wall? With most models, yes. Just check the Product Page for a ‘Ground Mount Kit’ option. What does ‘Standard’ ground mount kit mean? Posts (approx. 2200mm long) and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar. This is the most common type of post kit. What does ‘Plated’ ground mount kit mean? A Plated kit allows you to bolt the posts down onto an existing concrete area rather than core drilling or jack hammering holes into the concrete. The posts have metal plates welded on the bottom with holes for dyna-bolting down onto the concrete. It is 2 x Posts(approx. 1800mm long) and 1 x Rear Spreader Bar. How does the Compact 28 compare to other, similar clotheslines? To compare all of the Compact 28's features against Hills, Daytek and City Living clotheslines that are similar, then visit our Austral Compact 28 clothesline comparison chart. Can I install a fold down clothesline on a wall other than brick? Yes you can but you will just need to make sure the mounting brackets align with the structural supports in the wall. If not you may be able to customise the width of the clothesline(see above) to suit the supports. Another solution would be to purchase a Ground Mount Kit(if available) with the clothesline and install it freestanding in front of the wall. Can I install a fold down clothesline on a fence? Yes, this is very similar to mounting on a non-brick wall, the mounting brackets would need to align with the fence posts and they would have to be nice and solid. You will also need to check council regulations in your area to see if this is allowed. A freestanding Ground Mount Kit is an alternative once again. What is the best height for installing a fold down clothesline? A general rule of thumb is to install the top bolt of the fixing bracket at approx. 50mm above the users head height. An average height is approx. 1800mm but you can adjust this to suit your requirements. Can I proceed with the wall mounted installation of my foldown clothesline if the wall is shorter than the clothesline length? Yes. All Austral folding frame units have tubular steel front bars that may be shortened using a hack saw or angle grinder. You just need to reduce the front bar by the required length before inserting into pre-assembled side arms during installation. Can I hang my sheets without the need to fold or gather them to fit on the clothesline? Yes. The Austral Compact 28 has width of 2400mm, which easily fits a queen size sheet without folding or gathering. I have a cement path down the side of my house, yet not enough wall space to wall mount a fold down clothesline. Is there another option that will allow me to utilise this space? Yes. Austral manufactures Foldown Ground Mount Kits and Retractable Posts with welded metal base plates. These plated kits are pre-drilled and powdercoated for direct fixing onto cement slabs and tiled floors. The alternative is to core drill a neat hole in which you can install the upright legs. Is the Austral Compact 28 suitable to be used as an extra clothesline for wet weather drying? Yes. This unit is appropriate for use within carports, garages and verandahs, offering lots of line space and flexibility for wet weather drying. How easy is the Austral Compact 28 Foldown line to operate? The Austral Compact 28 foldown unit has a simple one-handed operation to raise or lower the frame. Pull the clothesline up with one hand until it locks into position. Push up firmly to release the catch and allow the line to fold down.

Austral Compact 28 Clothesline

I am very pleased with my new clothesline, works well and looks good. I found the installers didn't read the directions well or misunderstood which side to start threading the line from. I had to ask them to start again. Now all is well and I am able to tighten the line myself.
